For the Capital of culture, Denis Roueche transforms one of winter’s simplest games into a strange war machine. From the Anciens Abbatoirs, a snowball machine will catapult its projectiles towards the audience. This childlike gesture – making a snowball, taking aim, throwing it – thus takes on a mechanical and outsized dimension. Between play and artillery, the installation taps into the world of childhood and the mischievous spirit that infuses the artist’s work: to take an idea you might have had at the age of ten seriously and see it through to the end.
