Le Noirmont (Switzerland)
With Grand Conseil, Laurence Maître turns the audience into a political assembly. Seated in the deputies’ seats and divided into political parties, the audience watches a debate led by five performers around a fictional initiative. Without taking the floor, everyone is called upon to vote, and can thus influence the course of the debate. Blending theatre and democratic play, Grand Conseil explores the mechanisms of collective decision-making. A way to open the Capital of culture year by – quite literally – coming together as a city and moving beyond the usual walls, at the Maison du Peuple.

Founded in 2020 in the Franches-Montagnes (JU), COMPAGNIE PROVISOIRE creates theatre that questions reality and the forces that shape our societies. Following Guggen Prose (2021) and Grand Conseil (2026), it continues its exploration with Alcôves, a solo performance immersed in the everyday life of a parish in the 1990s, to be presented in April 2027 at the Centre de Culture ABC in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Biographies
A Jura-born actor, writer and director, Laurence Maître initially studied law before training in theatre at the Teintureries in Lausanne. After several years on stage and as a member of Collectif Princesses Léopold, she founded Compagnie Provisoire in the Franches-Montagnes in 2020. Her creative arena centres on social issues and the friction between fiction and reality.
